Oh, Fer Really Cute!

Bill said this was the cutest pair of trick or treaters he had at Stanley. I didn't have any. :-(

It's Crunch Time

For those of you who don't have crunchy leaves, give a listen. ;-) Can ya hear it? I know....I'm still a kid at heart.

Wind in the Pines

I was just outside putting the Christmas lights on our animated deer and it is a blustery day up nort'. I wish you could have been here to hear the sound of the wind blowing through the trees. I love that sound and it was raining leaves on me as I worked which I didn't mind one bit. I remember years ago when Mom and us kids would rake leaves on our farm and then Wayne and I would go and jump in them and make a big mess. We all had our job raking leaves though and then a bonfire afterward. I loved the sound of the crunch of the leaves when you walked through the woods...Wayne couldn't sneak up on me very easily.

We don't rake leaves up here...Bill blows them into the woods and then more come down so he gets to do it again the next day. There is a never-ending shower of leaves it seems.

I made a big batch of chili again today and an apple pie yesterday so I expect my tummy to look like the Great Pumpkin by this evening.

Big Elvis

Yes, Big Elvis is still bringing in the fans during his shows in Vegas. He has an amazing voice and I hear he has lost quite a bit of weight lately. Good for him. I'd like to know how he is doing it...... He must have stopped eating those peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

Picture Taken on an October Afternoon

Bill and I went for a little drive yesterday and here are some of the pictures I took....it was a beautiful day.

Peacock from Schell's Brewery in New Ulm

Here is a picture of a peacock (there was a white one behind this one) that was wandering the grounds and garden at Schell's Brewery in New Ulm. We will be going to New Ulm in November and will probably stop at the brewery again. Fun time!
I just watched the Wolves beat Detroit tonight and I must say they looked pretty good....lots of 3 point shots. It will be tough without Kevin Love and Al Jefferson playing for awhile but the young guys love to play and it's fun watching them.

I hear that the Twin Cities is supposed to get some snow and rain tomorrow...for once, we won't be getting any. That's just fine with me. :-) You should see the yard...it's just covered with wet leaves. Will have to let them dry out and then blow them all into the grove.

We had a fire going today after the chimney sweep cleaned it out....man, it still irks me what he charged to do it. Why do I feel that he cleaned my clock??? That was a saying that Dad used to say....I guess I should look that one up too cause I'm not sure about the origin or meaning of that one. Jonathon Lighter’s Historical Dictionary of American Slang lists To Clean from 1819 in the sense of vanquishing or drubbing. The slang use of clock to mean face may also be from the nineteenth century.

It's Apple Orchard Time or Days of Whine & Roses

Before our lunch, we went to the Apple Orchard and tasted a little wine at the winery. It was a beautiful fall day to walk around the orchard.

Tea for Three

Yesterday, Joan, Diane & I were over in Stillwater and decided to eat at a quaint little tea room.....here is a video of our lunch.

Flowers From Bill

My thoughtful husband sent me this beautiful bouquet of roses...they are gorgeous. He is hunting with some buddies up in North Dakota so I'm glad I can spend my birthday with good friends and family here in MG. Just wanted to share the picture with you all.

The Theatre

Last night, Prissy and I joined some friends and went to the Yellow Tree Theatre in Osseo and saw the play, The Movie Game. It was very enjoyable and fun and had a happy ending which I always like. Quaint little theatre. During intermission, Prissy bought something that reminded us of the Issies....and I just had to take a picture.

Here is one of my gifts from last night which I love. I think I'm going to call him Joe after my favorite Twin. Thanks, Gerri & Marcie!

To All The Issies I've Loved Before

Thanks so much for making my birthday special....all my Issy Peeps were there except Hissy. It was such a fun time!

Grey Gardens

After waiting almost half a year, I finally got a call that the DVD of Grey Gardens was in at Maple Grove. I watched it last night and was again struck how sad a life Little Edie and Big Edie had in their later years and how they spiralled downhill very fast after Big Edie's divorce. This was the actual documentary that was done on Grey Gardens and showed footage of both of them going about their daily life.

Good Memories at the Lake

Let It Snow....

Since I don't have anywhere to go this morning I thought I'd make a little video of the snow that is happening on OCTOBER 12! It's too early for this white stuff.

Winter is Here

I've resorted to more comfort food today because of the lousy weather....can you blame me?

The Chimney Sweep

Well, today we hired a chimney sweep to come out and clean our 3 fireplaces. Bill usually does this but has not been feeling up to it this year and we do use the fireplaces a lot so thought it was time to get it done. There was only one chimney sweep listed in the local paper so he came out this morning and got up on the roof and cleaned out the chimneys which took about 1 hour. After he left I asked Bill how much it cost and he said, $500.00!!! Oh my God. Maybe that is what I should do for a living....clean chimneys. It's good pay for less than 1 hour's work. That is just not right. What could we do? We needed it done. Well, I guess we'll be eating in this week. I'm still a little steamed about it. To top it off, the chimney sweep shot a bear and it was in his pick-up truck. I didn't think you would want to see a picture of it but if you do, let me know and I'll add it.
The second picture is the frozen water in our birdbath. No more water for the birds this year. :-(

Hard Frost

This was our first hard frost of the season and you could see the steam coming off the water (sorry this doesn't show it very well). It was beautiful though.

Oh, To Be 3 Again.....

Yes, I have another birthday coming up soon and it makes me wonder where all those years in between 3 and _ _ went. I'd like to have Mom make me an angel food cake with custard frosting (can't forget the walnuts on top of the custard), the pink elephants on top of the cake and the candles to blow out. Those were the days.

Maybe it's just the dreary weather that is making me a little melancholy today.....or the fact that I don't have cake to eat. I did bake another apple pie yesterday though....that's the last of the apples Bill brought back from North Dakota. And that's probably a good thing as I'm gaining weight every day.

Mums the Word

Bill bought me some flowers today. :-) Brightened up another dreary day. Going to watch the Twins beat Detroit today. How about those Vikings last night??

Go Twins!

Watched the Twins win today and the ceremony afterwards saying goodbye to the Dome (a little too soon as they will be playing there again Tuesday night). :-) It was touching seeing the players from the 1987 and 1991 World Series take the field and seeing the highlights of those great years. Shed a few tears when they showed the highlights on Kirby Puckett.

I made apple crisp today and ate it while watching the game....it was sooo yummy and the Twins won so all is good in my little corner of the world.

I took this picture of a dilapidated barn which was built in 1923...it's just down the road from us. Sometimes my back feels like this barn....the old gray mare - she ain't what she used to be. Maybe I should cut back on all the comfort food that I've been eating and give my poor back a break.

Itasca Park

We took a drive up to the park yesterday and I took a few pictures. It was not a sunny day so the pictures could be better. The Lodge will close tomorrow for the season. :-(
We sat and enjoyed the fire while sipping some wine and reading the paper...Bill even rested his eyes for awhile. There were a couple of kids sitting there reading and said they were home schooled so that was why they were there on Friday.
As we drove out of the park we encountered a fox walking along the road....we saw him the other day also. The leaves were pretty but not as nice as last year and the wind has done its damage also.

Apples Are Good This Year

Bill brought back some apples from our tree up in North Dakota and I decided to make an apple pie yesterday....as you can see, it's almost all gone already! The pie tastes better than it looks. The apples were Macintosh and sooo good. Of course, I had to have pie ala mode. Yummy!

I also decided to make chili today because of the cool, rainy weather. That always warms us up (along with the fire in the fireplace). I used the recipe from Byerlys and love it. We were going up to the Lodge for lunch because they always have 2 kinds of soup but may go tomorrow instead now that I've made the chili.

Hope you all have a great weekend!
